Oh Books, How I’ve Missed You

3 Mar

I wrote a post a few weeks back about wanting to read more. After all, I do want to read 20 books this year. Finally, I have gotten into the routine of reading. As a matter of fact, I’m reading 2 different books-one fiction and one non-fiction.

First, I began reading Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt. Actually, Paige and I read it together before we go to bed-I read out loud while she tries to doze off. Cheesy, I know, but its a wonderful bedtime routine.

Anyway. The first time I heard about the book was because of the movie. Now it is one of my favorites. I took the advice of one of my readers ,neuroticnotes, and she suggested I start with a book that was made into a movie I like. It was definitely a good place to start because I’m thoroughly enjoying the book.

Since Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil is my bedtime story I decided to read something else while Paige is busy working. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larrson is what I picked. Now, I had never heard of the book until I went to NYC a few months ago. Seriously, every time I stepped on to a train at least 5 people were reading this book.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is one of 3 books. The other two are The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest. From what I understand the author, Stieg Larsson, died shortly after delivering the manuscripts for the last 2 books and these are the only books he wrote.

Thus far I’ve made it through The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and it was amazing. I finally understand what the fuss has been about! Now, I’m about a quarter of the way through with The Girl Who Played with Fire and it is hard to stop reading it.

I definitely suggest all of these books. If you like crime fiction and non-fiction, then these books are worth a read.
